First Lutheran Church has a vibrant music program with numerous opportunities for sharing your musical gifts. Desire and commitment are more important than special training or expertise. We have a place for singers and instrumentalists of all ages, talent levels, and amounts of time that they can commit. Questions? Please contact Wayne Wold, Director of Music.
Choirs
First Lutheran Choir
The First Lutheran Choir is for adults and teens, and it is open to anyone who would like to sing at worship services and can attend rehearsals. The choir leads the congregational singing of hymns and liturgical music and sings choral works that come from the earliest Christian traditions through those of the present time, with a focus on the Lutheran tradition. The First Lutheran Choir sings nearly every Sunday of the program year (September-May) while rotating their participation between the services, also singing on Christmas Eve and during Holy Week.
First Lutheran Children's Choir
The First Lutheran Children's Choir is for children of elementary school age. The Children's Choir sings monthly in church during the program year (September-May). A strong emphasis is placed upon learning that our voices and musical talents are a gift from God—a gift to be joyfully shared. Children learn through the process of rehearsing and singing in worship services what a joy it is to be disciples of Christ in music ministry.
Handbells
Jubilate Handbell Choir
Our three-octave bell choir rings in worship several Sundays a month. They also play Thanksgiving Eve and Christmas Eve. Repertoire emphasis is on liturgical bell-ringing and hymn-based settings. Past ringing experience is not necessary, however the ability to count rhythms and read music is important. Questions? Please contact Jenne Burnham, Handbell Choir Director.
