Statement of Purpose
This committee plans, coordinates and provides opportunities for members to extend Christ's love and compassion to those in need, whether they are in this congregation, this community, the nation or the world. They seek to help the congregation learn about human needs that should be addressed.
The committee has goals of awareness, interest, involvement and concern-- it thoroughly searches for programs and activities that the congregation can support and promotes different organizations in our Messenger and church bulletin. Its concern is outreach, seeking to help love one another as Christ loves us.
DONATE your bike
To Bikes for the World!
Do you have a bicycle that you’re not using? Your bike could help someone in an underdeveloped country get to work or school.
On Saturday, May 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, our Social Ministry Committee will be collecting used bikes at the First Lutheran church parking lot. A $10 per bike donation is suggested to defray a share of the shipping.
What does Bikes for the World accept?
- All repairable adult and children’s bicycles. Modest rust on the chain or on the bright metal (“chrome”) is acceptable. However, bikes with rust on the painted frame or an immovable chain frozen with rust are NOT acceptable.
- Adult tricycles but NOT children’s tricycles.
- Usable bike parts, tools and accessories but NOT bike frames and “drop” handlebars.
- Bikes for the World also accepts operating portable SEWING MACHINES (not those attached to a table), as well as CELL PHONES. For more information, please e-mail socialministry@firstlutheranec.org or call Pr. Grant at 410-465-2977.
Bikes for the World is a sponsored project of the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, a not-for-profit charity. A receipt will be provided for all material and cash donations. Checks accepted. www.bikesforthe world.org.
