Prayer Ministry
PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY The concept of Prayer Shawls, an ancient tradition of our Jewish brethren (cf. Numbers 16:37-39), has in recent times taken on a new meaning and purpose for Christians. The Shawls are crafted gifts of love, gifts of prayer, from the first stitch to the last. They can be crocheted or knitted, they can be worked at home or with the group that meets here at church on the 1 st Monday of each month at 10:00 a.m. Scripture tells us that God is always present among us — in good times as well as in bad. Yet, when we’re feeling low, perhaps hurting physically or emotionally, a tangible reminder of His great love can make a difference. At First Lutheran, Prayer Shawls can and have made such a difference in the lives of more than 80 people. But help is needed. If you are able to knit or crochet, please consider being a part of this very special ministry. Patterns and materials will be supplied, all that is necessary is willing hands to work the materials — and a desire to spread the message of the warmth of God’s love. If you’d like further information, please contact Ginny Fan @ 410-750-7237 or Judy Moulton @ 410-313-8866. Facing difficult times? Ill? Grieving? These are only some of the instances where people’s lives have been touched by the gift of a Prayer Shawl. If you, or someone you know, could use one of these tangible reminders of God’s love, please contact Pastor Gigie Grant at 410-465-2977. We hunger for peace and yet we see a world trapped in a vicious cycle of violence, hatred, and revenge. Please help the leaders of the world recognize that peace is seldom achieved through war, but rather is best achieved through kindness, compassion, and forgiveness. Please help the people of the world understand that greed leads to conflict. Help them see that the accumulation of wealth is not the key to happiness. Help them realize that you have blessed us with everything that we need to complete the journey, especially your love and each other. And for all whose loved one are in harms way, please watch over them, protect them, and return them safely to their families. Please grant us the strength to be agents of peace as we strive to follow the teachings of your son Jesus Christ our savior, in whose name we pray. Amen. ASAP (source unknown) |
