Statement of Purpose
We are called to love the people of God both in and beyond the body of Christ. We achieve this both by serving the body of Christ at First Lutheran and by outreach to others in the community. We serve at First Lutheran by using God's gifts towards building up the body of Christ to increasing maturity (Eph 4:11-13) by planning and supervising programs to deepen the congregation's relationship with God in new and personal ways. We do this believing that a person interacting with God in an intimate and daily way becomes capable of evangelizing at the community level. We also help the church and its committees by assisting with communication needs.
We minister God's love to those outside the First Lutheran family by new and ongoing efforts to ensure that visitors to the church are deliberately and warmly welcomed and that their needs are met. We continue to seek God's guidance on taking this love deeper into the community.
Activities
The committee works with other church committees to promote programs for the strengthening of our members' faith, administers a program for visitor follow-up, issues press releases to local media, supports the church's audio tape ministry, places ads in the local media, organizes and updates the Narthex bulletin boards and calendar frame, replenishes the Care Notes, oversees the Care Team, and sponsors the biannual Committee Fair. The committee maintains the church's website and the Gifts of the Spirit and Welcome brochures. It also sponsors the Stephen Ministry program.
Nature of Group Membership
Members and friends of all ages are welcome.
Meetings
The Evangelism committee meets monthly, on the second Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Parlor.
