Outreach is a result of being welcomed into the community of faith and growing in our response to Christ's love for us. We have been blessed to be a blessing. At First we are intentional about reaching out beyond our walls to our community and the world. Some of our regular, ongoing work includes:

Angel Tree – Christmas gifts for children in need in the community.

First Lutheran Preschool Scholarship Fund -- the congregation supports families in need by providing partial scholarships to help eligible parents afford a quality educational program through First Lutheran Preschool.

Nursing Home Visitation- following a 40 year tradition, we bring the love of Christ to nursing home residents in Catonsville, Maryland by offering worship with communion.

Pangani Lutheran Children's Center, Nairobi, Kenya – an ELCA affiliated mission for abanonded or orphaned girls. Read the latest news here.

Partners in Care – a program of the Chaplains of the Maryland National Guard connecting congregations with needs of service men and women.

Route 1 Day Care Center - an outreach to the homeless in our community by providing food, needed items, and volunteers.

School Supplies Collections - supports disadvantaged children by providing needed school supplies for the new school year.

Warm Up America – yarn donated for baby blankets distributed through Howard County Health Department, WIC program.

Women and Children's Center - we partner with Christ Church's Baltimore Outreach Services to provide food and fellowship to homeless women and children.

In addition, the congregation responds generously to global crisis as they occur through Lutheran Disaster Response.

Christmas Baskets

Christmas Baskets Campaign

This is our largest undertaking and generates the majority of our funding. The baskets are given to over 150 families in our community. Each basket contains enough food to last a week.

This effort requires hundreds of volunteer hours and the coordination of many different organizations. First Lutheran has been supporting this project for over thirty years.
