Christian Education

Christian Education

Christian education is a priority at First Lutheran. We provide lifelong learning opportunities for all ages so that we can fulfill our mission statement to hear the story, know the story, tell the story, and live the story. Please take a look at the links to the left to learn about our Sunday School, Confirmation, Vacation Bible School, Adult Education, and Preschool. For specific information about our programs, please contact the Christian Education Director, Jenny James at 410-465-2977.

The Christian Education Building is located right next door to the Sanctuary, connected by a breezeway.

The Toddler Nursery, located downstairs next to the social hall, is vibrantly decorated with a mural of friendly animals including panda bears, flamingos, and tigers. The nursery director, Patti Sapp is there at 8:30 a.m. and attendant Terry Butler is there at 10:00 a.m. each Sunday to welcome families with children 10 months old to three years olds. The nursery is open on Sunday mornings during the 8:30 and 10:00 services. Parents are asked to volunteer on a rotating basis so that we can comply with our volunteer/child protection policy.

Holy Communion Instruction- Admission to the Sacrament is by invitation of the Lord, presented through the Church to those who are baptized. Families may decide at what age each of their children will participate fully in the sacrament by receiving bread and wine or grape juice. Age-appropriate educational materials are available from any member of the church staff. We offer two classes in the spring designed specifically for children and their parents; one for preschoolers, and one for 2nd graders.

The Christian Education Committee meets on the first Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m.
