Welcome to First Evangelical Lutheran Church. This site contains pictures and information about many aspects of church life. We hope that it will be of use to both visitors and members of the congregation. If you are new to the area or are looking for a new church, we hope that you will take an opportunity to look around our site and then maybe visit us for worship. Our church is a located in on the corner of Chatham and Frederick Roads in Ellicott City, Maryland. One of the largest Lutheran churches in Howard County, First Lutheran belongs to the Baltimore-West Conference of the Delaware-Maryland Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). First Lutheran was built on the present seven-acre sight in 1956. In 1967, an education building was added to provide space for Sunday School classes. The church continued to grow, and in response, a two phase building program was started. Phase I included the construction of the narthex, parlor, and offices, and was completed in 1988. Phase II construction involved building a new octagonal sanctuary. This church-in-the-round building, which can seat 600, was dedicated in 1996. There are twelve people on staff at First Lutheran. This includes a Senior Pastor, an Associate Pastor, Coordinator for Youth Ministry, Director of Music, Director of Christian Education, Preschool Director, Preschool Teacher, Preschool Aide, full-time Administrative Assistant, part-time Secretary, Sextant, and one Sunday morning nursery attendant. There are many opportunities
for people to become involved in the life and ministry of First
Lutheran. There are opportunities to help with Sunday morning worship,
serve on various committees, get involved in the community, teach,
learn, or join any of a number of special group activities. |
